As a part of the site HSE Manager’s team for the Luton Cluster, the HSE Advisor will play a crucial role in providing expert guidance and support in health, safety and environmental matters across various sites. This includes frequent travel to different locations as per operational needs.

The scope of responsibilities is vast, encompassing everything from conducting comprehensive risk assessments and managing safety data sheets to overseeing contractor and visitor inductions. The HSE Advisor will also be instrumental in internal HSE audits, ensuring compliance with ISO standards and leading projects that contribute to continuous improvement in HSE standards and practices.

The ideal candidate for this role must possess a proven track record of delivering tangible improvements in HSE standards and practices.

Proficiency in ISO Management Systems such as ISO 14001, 45001 and 50001, along with experience in auditing and managing HSE systems, is essential. A strong understanding of safety culture development principles and relevant certifications like NEBOSH General or NEBOSH Diploma/NVQ level 6 are highly desirable.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Support and Guidance: Offer assistance and expertise on a range of HSE related issues.
  2. Stakeholder Relationships: Develop strong relationships with key stakeholders across sites, fostering a positive culture and advocating best practices.
  3. Continuous Improvement: Drive ongoing enhancements in health, safety and environmental standards and practices.
  4. Comprehensive HSE Oversight: Oversee all HSE aspects across Luton managed sites including travel to these sites.
  5. Risk & COSHH Management: Manage the Risk & COSHH assessment databases effectively.
  6. Documentation and Reporting: Maintain safety data sheets, conduct contractor and visitor inductions and prepare internal HSE audit reports.
  7. Compliance: Ensure compliance with ISO 45001, 14001 and 50001 standards through regular audits and reporting via Balanced Scorecard (BSC).
  8. Meetings and Coordination: Prepare for HSE Representatives meetings, update emergency preparedness arrangements and conduct document reviews as necessary.
  9. Environmental Monitoring: Monitor energy and waste management, maintaining accurate records.
  10. Communication: Keep the HSE notice board current and relevant.
  11. Project Leadership: Lead HSE projects as assigned by the HSE Manager.
  12. Safety Inspections: Conduct regular safety inspections on site.
  13. Collaborative Projects: Occasionally participate in LEUK wide projects requiring HSE expertise.

Desired Qualifications and Skills

Essential Requirements:

  1. Eligibility for SC level clearance.
  2. Demonstrated track record in implementing HSE improvements.
  3. Proficiency in ISO Management Systems (ISO 14001, 45001, 50001) and experience in managing/auditing HSE systems.
  4. Understanding of safety culture development principles.
  5. NEBOSH General certification with a preference for candidates working towards NEBOSH Diploma/NVQ level 6.
  6. Self motivated and capable of working independently.
  7. Strong interpersonal skills, capable of collaborating effectively with individuals at all organizational levels.
  8. Proficient in computer skills, particularly MS Office applications.
  9. Excellent analytical capabilities.
  10. Resilience and ability to perform under pressure.
  11. Flexibility to travel and work at various sites as needed.
